Current Tent Sales - Best bang for buck?

Main Post:

Looking to get my first tent, will likely be mostly used for car camping but want to have backpacking be an option. I am a fit college aged guy so not too terribly worried about weight. Looking to get the very best bang for my buck for a 2-3 person tent on sale and made a shortlist. Any opinions as to which to pick or if one is good/bad are appreciated, since all of them seem to have their perks!

2 Person:

Naturehike Star River 2: $149 $119 (5.5 lb) <- cheapest entry

Naturehike Mongar 2: $119 (5 lb) <- what I planned to get before sales

Marmot Tungsten 2P: $250 $138 (5 lb) <- very highly recommended all over reddit

Kelty Grand Mesa 2p: $149 $139 (4 lb) <- best reviewed out of options

Lanshan 2 - 3 Season: $156 $145 (2.8 lb) <- lightest option but would need trekking sticks

REI Trailmade 2: $199 $148 (5.5 lb) <- several friends have used and thought decent

3 Person:

Sierra Designs Meteor 3: $320 $128 (5.5 lb) <- biggest discount

Big Agnes C-Bar 2/3: $299 $152 (4.5 lb) <- "best" company

Edit: Found better prices on other sites, grammar

Top Comment: Check your weights, that Kelly Late Start 2p is 4.5 pounds according to Amazon. I love my Mongar 2. If two people split it, 2.5 lbs per person is easy. It’s a solid shelter that I use for backpacking. A trekking pole tent will always be the lightest option.

Colman Instant Cabin Tent is on sale on Amazon!

Main Post:

For those looking for a great tent for Burning Man, Amazon seems to have the Colman Cabin Tent for a reduced price. The tent is one of the few that can be sealed from the dust. Highly recommend as a low-cost tent option. No, this is not some affiliate marketing crap. Just saw this price drop and thought it could help.

Best time to buy a tent?

Main Post:

I'm not looking for anything amazing. Something that can stand weekend camping trips and a festival here and there. Looking for a 6ish person tent.

Top Comment: I think depends more on local store specials, rather than a general pattern.

Rooftop tent at garage sale?

Main Post:

Has anybody ever seen one? Is it something they keep in the back cause of floor space?

Top Comment:

Floor space is a consideration, but I have seen them quite often.

Need help deciding which tent to buy.

Main Post:

Hi all,

I am going to a festival soon and will be sleeping in a tent with my SO. I need help deciding between a few relatively cheap tents to use for that weekend, but also a potential camping vacation later.

We are with 2 persons, but would like some extra space, so we picked a few 3-person tents. 2m*1.2m is too small for our comfort.

We want to pick one of these 3, except if somebody has another good deal for under 100 dollars, available in The Netherlands.

Coleman Darwin 3+ (I read Coleman is a pretty good brand)

Quecha Arpenaz 3 XL Fresh & Black (Fresh & Black should help keep the tent cool and dark)

Coleman Cortes 3

Any advice on what tent to pick is greatly appreciated!

Top Comment: You're going to want a blackout tent cause you'll be up all night and want some sleep til late in the AM.... so the Quecha is the winner.

Looking for a good deal on a tent for camping.

Main Post:

I've been camping my entire life but I've always used my parents gear. Now that I have a family of my own I need to start getting my own stuff. The tent is probably going to be the biggest expenditure so I'm hoping some of you know where I can get a good deal on one. I have air mattresses already and I live in FL so I don't need heavy duty sleeping bags.

Any other general camping saving suggestions are welcome.

Top Comment:

Look for reduced last years items.

Look for a highly frequented outdoorsy forum. There will be a "bargain" thread somewhere, and a second hand section. you will also get better help in deciding for a new tent.

Camping is great and very frugal, do not buy super cheap. A decent tent for 3 persons will nearly always cost beyond 100-200.

When arethe next Big Tent Sales?

Main Post:

I had planned on taking advantage of the Xmas sales and treat myself to a new tent. I got Bronchitis and forgot. Nothing is on Sale now. I am assuming before Memorial Day is the next best thing?

Top Comment:

REI has a member sale in March and usually the other retailers will also offer something up for sale around that time.

Request: Best places for clearance or off season sales of Camping Gear

Main Post:

Hello!

I remember reading somewhere that the best time to buy camping items is after Christmas, during the month of January. Do you fine folks have any recommendations for any deals going on right now?

Major items can really add up - so I'm trying to find a back packing 3-season sleeping bag and pad for when spring rolls around. But I'm also open to general deals.

Thanks!

Did HarborFreight stop doing tent sales? They used to do it once every 2 or 3 months and last year they didn’t have any
